Shopping for Christmas

Christmas is always a time when I get really really nervous. I enjoy giving gifts to my family and friends but the hardest part about is picking what each of them want.

During the holidays, I just love celebrating and dining with my family. I love them with all my heart. When I was young, I always saw my dad being very enthusiastic about the holidays so i think I got that from him. Being the only boy in the family, and having seven sisters, I have assumed the role as the protective one in the family, that I can attest to. I am also very fortunate that I get to have a career that enables me to take care of my family’s finances too. Being the only brother they have, even though I know that they should all respect me, at times I feel like they don’t look at me as the “father-figure” even if I’m their big brother.

Around the Christmas time when I have to go out and shop for these seven beautiful ladies I lose it completely. They are seven women, how am I supposed to remember what each of these girls like. It gets really difficult when they unwrap their gifts and they like the gift that some one else has got every one gets running to me and despite my best I am stuck.

Believe me, I have tried everything in this world. Name it, from stationary to jewelry, from clothes to puppies, but I just never really get what these ladies really want. And now that I think about it, fall season just started and Christmas is just lurking by around the corner. I told myself that this year, I will not be going through that stressful issue anymore, and I will also never repeat anymore gifts to them since I always get called out for it. So one thing that I did was that I put a comment box in the house so that each of them can put whatever they want so that I won’t have a hard time trying to guess what I should get them for Christmas. But then, no one really put anything interesting in the box. All they said was that “you should think of it on your own, we wouldn’t mention it to anyone.” That was no help at all, and made me even more frustrated than I already am.

When this time comes, I made sure that I would just pick 7 random things on the street while I’m walking. Because I realized that even if I pick things for them or not, they still would have something to say about them either way. So I picked a clock, a make up kit, a stuff toy, a huge mirror, an aquarium, a DVD player and a Cartier fake handbag. I then put them in their own separate gift bags and place them underneath the Christmas tree.

This time I did another smart thing, I didnt label the gifts. And I told all seven of them that you could pick and choose from the piled gifts and thats what they did. God! What was I expecting ” a miracle? Noting changed every one reacted the same way as they do every Christmas. Only Kelly was happy with her gift, she was the one to unwrap the Cartier fake handbag.
